War in Europe

By 1938, Germany had marched in to Austria and formed a union with the counrty. The world did nothing about it. After Austria, Hitler now had his sights on Czechoslovakia. To aviod blood shed he called a meeting with British prime minister Neville Chamberlain, and French premier Edouard Daladier. At the meeting he said the Sudetenland, western border regions of Czechoslovakia, would be his "last territorial demand." In an effort to aviod war the prime minister and the premier agreed.

Even though peaceful attempts had been made to stop the German advance, on March 15, 1939, the German troops filled what was left of Czechoslovakia. After this Hitler turned his sights to east of Germany, Poland. To avoid a two front war as in World War 1, Hitler signed a nonagression pact with Soviet Union leader Stalin. After the pact was signed on September 1, 1939 the German army invaded Poland using its new military strategy, blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg stlye warfare was a fast, swift attack on the enemy using overwhelming force usally catching them off guard. Two days after the invasion of Poland, Great Britian and France declared war on Germany and World War 2 begun.

After the fall of Denmark and Norway, Gemany now turned his attention to France. His army proved to be to much for the French and pushed the French and British soliders to Dunkirk, the French coast. After the fall of France, Hitler now focused on Great Britian. Using it's airforce, Hitler had numerous British cities bombed, but the British airforce was also powerful and bombed German cities as well. Hitler decided to hault his campign against Great Britian for the moment.
